Bollywood Shilpa to walk the red carpet for Desire

Shilpa Shetty is spending a quiet weekend in England’s Lake District before she flies off to Guyana via New York. She will walk the red carpet on August 24, the opening day of the New York Film Festival, to promote her English film, Desire. The Indo-Chinese co-production, produced by her mother

Sunnanda Shetty and Shi Yun bagged the Best Narrative Award at the Boston Film Festival. Says Shilpa, “It features Chinese superstar Xia Yu. We’ll release it in China and India, but first we’ll do the rounds of the festival circuit.” She’s in no hurry to sign another film: “It’ll have to be a really tempting offer to make me kick off my sabbatical. I’m enjoying this break after years of working. But I can’t wait to return to Mumbai and start my own production — not a baby but a movie.”
Shilpa’s been talking about producing a movie for three years now. She admits that the earlier R 50 crore project has been shelved as it’s no longer feasible. “We’ll start another film soon,” she promises. What about the buzz during the IPL that she was pregnant? “Doesn’t the media have its hands full with Aishwarya (Bachchan) and Lara (Dutta) who are really expecting?” she asks. “I do want a family and everything else that completes me as a woman. I’m waiting for it to happen. Till then, there are other things to keep me busy.”
Laughing off rumours that her marriage with Raj Kundra is in trouble, Shilpa says she refuted them on Twitter: “Not because I owe anyone an explanation, but because it’s disturbing for the family. Some people would be happy if Raj and I are unhappy, sorry to disappoint. I take most rumours in my stride, but some of these stories hit below the belt. People should know where to draw the line.”
